Millitech awarded $16 million US satellite communications contract

Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) has awarded Millitech a $16 million contract for the first Production Year of the Navy Multiband Terminal (NMT) satellite communication program in the United States. Millitech, a Smiths Interconnect business, will provide the Antenna Pedestal Group for the project. The NMT program contract contains five (5) production year options.

NMT is a family of multiband ship, submarine and shore communications terminals providing a powerful and reliable new capability to support its net-centric architecture. The terminals will provide all Navy military-band satellite communications with up to five times the current bandwidth while using smaller, lighter and more energy efficient systems.

“Raytheon has developed one of the most advanced and reliable communications systems ever fielded,” said Kent Whitney, President of Millitech. “We are proud to play a role in the success of NMT.”

Millitech has worked with Raytheon for more than 20 years on various satellite communication systems and has been a teammate on NMT since Raytheon was initially awarded the competitive NMT prototype development phase in 2003.
