Modified Standard Components
These are components that have been customized to meet special requirements. They require minimal non-recurring engineering (NRE) costs, and can be tailored to fit specific customer needs. Typically these meet one or more of the following:
Custom-designed Assemblies (CDAs)
A custom-designed assembly consists of several standard components that are integrated to meet an application-specific requirement. Millitech's highly experienced Application Engineers are on hand to ensure your unique specifications are met.
These are custom-designed application-specific assemblies designed by Millitech's highly qualified Engineering Department to meet detailed requirements and qualifications.
Our Engineering Department can provide custom MMW product development for serial production integrating MMW, environment-specific packaging, and control electronics. May include signal processing, BITE, RS-422, RS-232, Ethernet, or mechanical scanning.
Universal 18-40 GHz Down-Converters
These Universal converters take RF signals from 18-40GHz and down converts them to the 3-15 GHz range. Superior phase noise LOs provide an integrated RMS phase of less than 0.5 degrees. The converter is locked to an internal 10MHz reference or can be locked to an externally supplied reference. The converter operates without fans for improved reliability and environmental sealing. Optional versions can be provided with alternative combinations of frequencies, phase noise, gain, linearity or noise figure within the same package outline.
WGS Ka Band Converters
These versatile converters meet all performance and environmental requirements for the new generation of WGS terminals. In addition, variants of the flexible design will cover both military and commercial Ka-band applications. Customization options are available for lower noise, high power, higher gain, and accurate digital attenuation control. Converters are supplied with PLDROs and waveguide filter (upconverter only). Loopback translators are also available in the same configuration to allow for complete loopback test functionality.
Millitech has extensive experience designing custom, turn-key systems integrating an array of MMW hardware with signal processing and control hardware for use in radar, radiometric, and communication applications.
Millitech has participated in several programs providing fully qualified millimeter and sub-millimeter systems and components for space-borne applications.
Custom Antenna Design
Millitech has over 25 years experience in the design of microwave and millimeter-wave antennas. Millitech has the software, expertise, and test facilities to develop a wide range of custom antennas for millimeter-wave applications such as multi-band MIL-SATCOM terminals, radar, imaging, radio astronomy, environmental remote sensing, autonomous robotic sensors, and industrial sensors. In addition to our own antenna experts, we also have a close relationship with the University of Massachusetts Antenna Center which has world-class faculty in this area.
Power Combiners and Dividers
Millitech has developed a number of solutions for highly efficient millimeter-wave power dividing and combining. These units are ideal for power combining in cascaded arrays for commercial, military, and satellite applications. Millitech utilizes both electroforming and CNC machining techniques to achieve low insertion loss, high point-to-point isolation, and excellent phase balance. Millitech also offers a number of these units as standard products and can accommodate nearly any power combining requirements.
Solid State Power Amplifiers
Our solid-state amplifiers can be combined to generate even higher power amplifiers. For example, the custom-designed assembly shown below utilizes a 94 GHz 1 Watt source created by combining eight saturated PAs. Millitech optimally tunes the SSPAs and integrates them with a heat-sink and drivers per our customer's requirements. This configuration includes a YIG oscillator and a x6 multiplier.
Test and Measurement Products
Millitech offers a wide range of configurable components for millimeter-wave test and measurement. Existing RF test and measurement equipment can often be combined with Millitech components and assemblies to extend measurement capabilities to millimeter-wave frequencies.
Millitech has over 15 years experience developing radars for numerous applications covering a frequency range from 18 to 140 GHz. We developed the first commercial vehicle radar at 77 GHz for Daimler-Benz in 1996, and have the experience and flexibility to develop solutions for challenging sensing applications, especially where size and resolution are critical.
Millitech has over 20 years of experience developing military and commercial millimeter-wave radios for secure fixed wireless line-of-sight communications applications. Millimeter-wave radio has several advantages over its conventional microwave counterpart, such as spectrum availability. These systems have pencil-thin antenna beams due to their short wavelength resulting in high frequency reuse and security. Penetration of fog enables high up-time (5-9's) at distances of up to 1.5 km.

More than seventeen gigahertz of spectrum has been allocated in the US for millimeter-wave communications in both unlicensed (FCC part 15) and coordinated use. With such abundance of available spectrum, wireless full-duplex transport at GigE rates and higher are now practical using millimeter-wave point-to-point radios.
Millitech supports these markets in several ways:
Radiometers developed by Millitech have been used in a wide variety of applications and frequencies ranging from 35 GHz to 550 GHz. Applications include cryogenically-cooled receivers, CLO monitoring (ozone related product), radio astronomy receivers, plasma diagnostic systems, remote sensing, chemical trace detection, and passive imaging systems.
Millitech has the requisite experience to provide complete turn-key systems with calibration, IF processing, integrators, spectrometers (filter-bank), data acquisition, and software.
